Becoming bell hooks

Director/Producer

Becoming bell hooks is an intimate exploration of the life, work, and enduring legacy of feminist icon bell hooks. This documentary delves into her transformative ideas on race, gender, class, and love, revealing how her fearless writing and teachings continue to inspire activism and self-discovery today. Through archival footage, interviews with scholars, activists, and those who knew her, as well as readings of her most influential works, the film traces hooks’ journey from her childhood in the segregated South to her emergence as one of the most vital voices in feminist theory.

More than a biography, Becoming bell hooks examines the power of radical honesty and compassion in challenging systemic oppression. It invites viewers to engage with hooks’ vision of a world where love and justice intersect—and to reflect on their own role in making that world a reality.

Harlan County: Scenes From the Blackjewel Miner's Blockade

Director/Producer

A short documentary about the 2019 Blackjewel miners' protest in Harlan, Kentucky—where laid-off coal workers blocked a train for two months to demand stolen wages. This story is a testament to unexpected solidarity.

The film captures how working-class miners, fighting for survival in a dying industry, found allies in an unlikely group: transgender activists from across Appalachia. These activists brought supplies, organized mutual aid, and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with miners on the tracks—bridging divides in a region often seen as divided. Through raw interviews and vérité footage, the documentary explores how shared struggles against economic injustice forged a rare moment of unity between two marginalized communities.
